ABOUT MACONDO
Macondo is Julia Schönheit and Alexander Morris. Together, they have a background in: producing/directing short (up to 30 minutes) documentaries, producing politics analysis and current affairs shows, as well as feature documentary production and distribution.

Our first documentary, about the unknown history of medicine in the Islamic Golden Age, was commissioned by a fantastic hospital charity (which has been dubbed Pakistan's NHS) called The Indus Health Network.

As individuals, Alex has produced current affairs documentaries across the world in recent years - including Afghanistan, India and Burkina Faso - and Julia is contracted as a video editor at a prestigious German broadcaster.
SERVICES
What We Do
PRE-PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT
With backgrounds in journalism and documentary research, we have a proven record of finding and pitching stories, and finding great characters for the screen. Our research for the Islamic Medicine documentary took us from the reading rooms of the British Library in London, to Oxford University and the Millet Library in Istanbul. Needless to say, we know our way around a dusty manuscript.
PRODUCTION
Both Julia and Alex are self-shooting, but we also work with some fantastic DOPs and sound recordists when we want to focus on producing and directing. We also have long standing relationships with a range of editors, on-screen talent, and executive producers for mentoring.
DISTRIBUTION
Both Julia and Alex started out at one of the leading companies for independent documentary production and distribution in the UK, Dartmouth Films, and both have experience working on crowd-fund campaigns, organising both cinema and community screenings, and liaising with sales agents and broadcasters.
